1930s Art Deco Burr Walnut Double Bed Headboard

A 1930s Art Deco double bed headboard with a broad panel of richly figured burr walnut and contrasting walnut detailing around the upper edge.

The simple stepped outline is typical of the period, with a raised central section and rounded corners. The burr walnut has plenty of variation across the grain and is finished in a high gloss, giving the headboard a strong decorative presence without being overly elaborate.

The back retains an original retailer’s label for Leeming’s House Furniture, 29 Lister Lane, Halifax. The fixing arrangement has been adapted during its life, with later wooden struts fitted to allow the headboard to be attached to a bed.

Condition

Good vintage condition with signs of age and previous use. The high-gloss finish has some small scratches, marks and surface wear. There are clear signs of previous alteration to the rear, including later fixing struts and marks from earlier fittings. These alterations are largely hidden when the headboard is in use.
